
No. 13 Orange Host Cal Sunday

Syracuse, N.Y. – The 13th-ranked Syracuse University field hockey team hosts California (3-7) on Sunday at 2 p.m. The Orange (7-4, 1-3 ACC) are coming off a 2-1 double overtime upset over No. 8 Boston College Friday night while the Bears lost, 4-3, in overtime on Saturday to the Eagles.
Against BC, Claire Cooke scored her first career goal and Kira Wimbert recorded a career-high two assists in the win. Senior Roos Weers netted the game-winning goal off a penalty corner in double-overtime to secure the first Atlantic Coast Conference win of the season.
Weers and Chiara Gutsche lead the Orange with six goals on the season. Defensively, 'Cuse has held opponents to 44 points this year while goalkeeper Borg van der Velde holds a .761 save percentage and has tallied 51 saves in 11 appearances.
Cal enters the weekend on a four-game losing streak and is 0-6 against ranked opponents this season. The Bears had a dominant 3-0 lead over the eighth-ranked Eagles on Saturday afternoon but Boston College scored three-unanswered goals to force their second overtime in as many days. BC went on to win with 4:28 remaining in the first overtime period.
