
Volleyball Returns to the Road Against Virginia Tech

As they enter the final month of the regular season, the Syracuse University volleyball team is set for a Friday matchup against Virginia Tech. Syracuse (14-7, 10-3 ACC) travels to Blacksburg for the first meeting of two this season between the pair of programs.
The match starts at 6 p.m. and will be available live on the ACC Network Extra.
THE OPPONENT
Virginia Tech (13-11, 4-8 ACC) enters the weekend looking to snap its three-match losing streak. In the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Hokies rank third in service aces (1.43) and fourth in opponent kills (12.13).
Kaity Smith's 24 aces rank second on the team. Smith leads the Virginia Tech offense with 3.50 kills per set
Syracuse won the sole meeting of the two teams last year with a 3-0 sweep. Virginia Tech holds a 7-3 series advantage, including winning all three contests in Blacksburg.
LAST TIME OUT
Syracuse defeated Boston College 3-1 Wednesday evening, coming off an upset victory over No. 22 Louisville. Ella Saada and Christina Oyawale had 20 and 12 kills, respectively, as each recorded career-highs. Saada and Aliah Bowllan led the Orange with 12 digs.
The Orange's blocking attack continued to bolster the defensive effort. Syracuse tallied 15 blocks, holding Boston College to a .149 hitting percentage.
BLOCKING DOMINANCE
With 2.99 blocks per set, Syracuse ranks second in the country behind only Stanford (3.22). The Orange have recorded 15 10-plus block performances this season, more than any other team in the ACC. Seven of Syracuse's matches this season have featured 15 or more blocks, while the next closest ACC team, Duke, has recorded three.
Amber Witherspoon ranks 15th nationally with 1.43 blocks per set followed by Santita Ebangwese's 29th ranked 1.33 blocks per set. Syracuse is the only school in the country to have two blockers among the top-30 nationally in blocks per set.
