SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The first half of the Orange's regular season concludes this weekend.
The Syracuse hockey team plays No. 10 Colgate in a home-and-home series starting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6 at Tennity Ice Pavilion. The Orange then play the nationally-ranked Raiders at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6 inside the Class of 1965 Arena in Hamilton, N.Y.
ABOUT THE SERIES
The Orange are 5-9-3 all-time against the Raiders. In the past six meetings, Colgate holds a 4-0-2 advantage over the Orange, with three of the wins coming by one goal.
Syracuse last played Colgate in January of last season, losing 2-1 on the road. Forward Brooke Avery scored the Orange's lone goal.
SCOUTING THE RAIDERS
The Raiders, ranked No. 10 in the country in the latest USCHO poll, enter this week's contests on the heels of back-to-back wins against ranked opponents. Colgate took down No. 3 Clarkson, 4-1, and followed that up with a 5-1 blowout win over No. 9 St. Lawrence.
Colgate averages 3.2 goals per game and has six players with double-figure point totals. Forward Malia Schneider leads the squad with 18 points, including a team-high 11 assists, while forward Jessie Eldridge paces the Raiders in goals with 10.
Goaltender Julia Vandyk has started 12-of-16 games for the Raiders this season, posting a 7-5-2 record, 2.36 GAA and .923 save percentage.
WHAT'S NEW WITH THE ORANGE
Defenseman Allie Munroe and forward Abby Moloughney both tallied their third goals of the year, but the Orange couldn't match No. 1 Wisconsin's high-powered offense, losing 6-1 and 9-1 over the weekend.
Goaltender Maddi Welch was between the pipes for both games, recording 79 total saves in two games against the top-ranked Badgers. Welch's 48 saves in Saturday's 6-1 loss is a new career-high and ties the fourth-best mark in program history.
The Orange have scored at least twice in eight games this year. Forward Emma Polaski leads the Orange offensively, pacing the team in goals with eight. She earned her first career hat trick against RIT on Nov. 16, and her 11 points this season are good for second on the team behind Munroe (12).
WHAT LIES AHEAD
The Orange will reconvene in late December for a trip to Montreal, playing three exhibition games at the Theresa Humes Invitational from Dec. 28-30. The Orange face off against Nipissing, St. FX and host Concordia over the three-day period.
The regular season restarts Tuesday, Jan. 8, when Syracuse plays non-conference foe RPI in Troy, N.Y.
