THE GAME
- Syracuse looks to bounce back from a tough loss to No. 3 Albany on Saturday, when the team hosts Army in its second game of seven-straight contests against top-15 opponents.
- The game will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra, with Jake Marsh on play-by-play, where he'll be accompanied on the call by Syracuse legend Ryan Powell. Brian Higgins and Kyle Fetterly will carry the game on ESPN97.7 and Noah Eagle, Conor Federico and JD Raucci broadcasting the game on WAER.
THE ARMY SERIES
- Syracuse and Army have squared off 64 times in program history, the third most of any opponent Syracuse has ever faced, trailing just Hobart (103 meetings) and Cornell (102 meetings).
- The Black Knights control the series 40-24, however recent history has been on Syracuse's side, with the Orange winning 19 of the last-22 meetings.
- Danny Varello got his first true taste of meaningful collegiate action in this game last year, with Ben Williams sidelined due to injury. The Cadets won 14-13, but Varello went 10-of-17 at the X and Brendan Bomberry (3-1), Stephen Rehfuss (2-0), Bradley Voigt (1-0) and Ryan Simmons (1-0), headlined the returners in scoring.
- The contest features two of the winningest lacrosse programs in the sport's history, as the teams have combined for 1,682 wins and are two of the only five lacrosse programs with 775 or more wins all-time.
ORANGE IN BOUNCE-BACK GAMES
- Head coach John Desko has had tremendous succes in getting the Orange back on track following a loss.
- 'Cuse is 41-21 in games following a loss during a season under Desko (this record does not include the season opener following season-ending losses).
- Under Desko, 'Cuse has only had 10 "losing streaks" (two or more consecutive losses).
- That record is even better in the Carrier Dome, in the history of the building (which the men's lacrosse program began playing its games in in 1981), Syracuse has only once lost back-to-back games in which both were played on its turf, happening in 1995. 'Cuse also hasn't lost back-to-back home games in general since the 2007 season.
'CUSE CLOSING IN ON 900 WINS
- Syracuse enters the Saturday's game with 896 wins, looking to become the second program in NCAA DI lacrosse history to reach 900 wins.
- Johns Hopkins (972), Syracuse (896) and Maryland (812) are the only three programs with 800 or more wins. Navy is 10 from the plateau and Army is 16.
- There are six other programs in the 700 win club, Johns Hopkins (972), Maryland (810), Navy (789), Army (782), Hobart (763) and Cornell (747). All but the Terps appear on the Orange's 2018 schedule.
NON-CONFERENCE SUCCESS
- Syracuse finished the 2017 season 9-2 against the non-conference slate and opened this year 1-1 after a win over Binghamton and a loss to Albany.
- Since joining the ACC, the Orange is 35-8 versus non-conference opponents, including a 32-4 mark in regular-season, non-league contests.
AGAINST THE PATRIOT LEAGUE
- Syracuse is 109-76-2 all-time against the seven current members of the Patriot League.
- Syracuse will face three Patriot League opponents in 2018, including Army, Navy and Colgate.
- In addition to the 24-40 record against Army, 'Cuse is 47-11-1 against Colgate, 8-0 against Bucknell, 3-2 against Lehigh, 19-5 against Loyola, 8-18-1 against Navy, and has never faced Boston University, Lafayette or Holy Cross.
A WIN AGAINST ARMY WOULD...
- Be the program's 897th victory, second all-time behind Johns Hopkins.
- Improve SU's record to 51-17 since the start of the 2014 season
- Give John Desko his 238th career coaching win, fifth among active Division I coaches.
DOME-INATION
- Syracuse is 233-35 (.872) in the Carrier Dome since it began playing the majority of its home games there in 1981, including 1-1 this year.
- The Orange finished 9-0 at the Dome in 2015, the 16th time since 1981 (the lacrosse team's first year there) that SU was perfect at home.
- The Orange has won 30 of its last-34 home games.
TEN BELOW
- Syracuse has won 49-straight games when holding opponents to under 10 goals in a game.
- In 2016, the Orange held 11 opponents under that mark.
- Last season, Syracuse has held Siena (6), Albany (9), St. John's (9), Johns Hopkins (7), Cornell (8), Binghamton (8) and Colgate (9) under that mark. Syracuse won its 2018 opener when holding Binghamton to four goals on Saturday.
- The last time Syracuse failed to win when keeping its foe to single digits was on April 28, 2012, when the Orange fell at Notre Dame, 8-6.
All-TIMER ON THE CALL
- Syracuse fans will hear a famaliar name calling Syracuse men's lacrosse games on ACC Network Extra this spring.
- Ryan Powell - who still ranks tied for second with his brother Casey for second on the Syracuse points list with 287 - will call select Orange games as an analyst this season.
- Powell played from 1997-00, donned the famous 22 jersey and combined with his two brothers Casey (1995-98) and Mike (2001-04) to tally 881 combined points at Syracuse.
- Ryan was a four-time All-American, won the Enners award as the nation's top player in 2000 and the Turnbull Award as the nation's top attackman that same season.
PACKING 'EM IN
- 7,238 came out for the Orange's matchup with Albany, the most fans to watch a collegiate lacrosse game this season.
- Through the Orange's seven home games in 2017, the team finished second in the country in average attendance with 4,284 fans per game. The most fans in the nation went through Carrier Dome turnstyles in 2017, though, as 34,271 fans saw the Orange play.
- The Orange has finished first or second in average home attendance every year since the NCAA began tracking it in 2010, including leading in each of the last three seasons.
- 3,041 saw the season-opener, which was the largest audience for a season opener at the Dome since the 2014 season.
RARE FEAT
- Tucker Dordevic accomplished the rare feat of starting his first game as a true freshman at Syracuse.
- Dordevic is the first offensive true freshman to start a season opener since Mike Leveille in 2005.
- Leveille would later go on to win the Tewaaraton Award in 2008.
