Camden, N.J. – No. 14 Syracuse University opened the season with a second-place finish at the Doc Hosea Invitational on Saturday morning on the Cooper River. The Orange tallied 102 points for silver and No. 15 Indiana edged 'Cuse by four points for first place. Dartmouth placed third overall with 99 points.
"The event delivered the experience that we wanted our women to have," head coach Justin Moore said. "It was great to have two six-boat races. The heats were closely contested and the finals were too as the photo finish with Dartmouth indicated. I thought women did a reasonably good job and raced to about the level that we thought they would. There was much learned and we are looking to making those changes that we need to make over then next two weeks before we head down to the Clemson Invite."
Syracuse's first varsity eight finished third in the Grand Final after a photo finish with Dartmouth who took second. The Orange won the second varsity eight grand final clocking a time of 6:42.2 to beat out No. 20 Minnesota's crew by 0.8 seconds.
The Orange earned 14 points following a sixth-place varsity four grand final finish and seven points when the second varsity four placed third.
'Cuse's third varsity eight crew won the first final of the day beating out Rutgers by nearly five seconds to bring in five points for the Orange.
Pennsylvania (RV) placed fourth with 80 points while No. 20 Minnesota and Rutgers rounded out the top-5 with a tied with 73 points each.
