Records Fall on Opposite Coasts

Justyn Knight and Paige Stoner bested their own school records in a pair of events on opposite coasts for the Syracuse track and field programs on Friday night.

Stoner crushed the field by over six seconds in the 3000-meter steeplechase at the Virginia Challenge, setting a new school record in 9:57.20. Stoner's time ranks fifth nationally in the 3000-meter steeplechase.

Stoner won by 6.08 seconds, besting her previous record of 10:02.56 in the process. Behind Stoner, Sydney Leiher (10:45.44) and Laura Dickinson (10:45.61) took 17th and 18th, respectively, in the event.

Knight finished second to defending NCAA Champion Josh Kerr in the 1500-meters at the Bryan Clay Invitational. Kerr and Knight now rank first and second nationally in the 1500-meters this season.
Down the stretch, it was Knight and Kerr, with the New Mexico standout edging Knight by 0.06 seconds. The duo are a full three seconds faster than the previous top time nationally, and is a new school record for Knight. He crossed the line in 3:36.07, with Kerr in 3:36.01.
Knight previously owned the record at 3:39.23.
Back at the Virginia Challenge, Aidan Tooker was the top collegian, taking second overall in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase in 8:45.79. Craig Nowak of Asics took the overall win, while Noah Affolder (8:51.78) finished fourth overall.
The Virginia Challenge continues on Saturday for the Orange.
