
Orange Claim Second and Third Varsity Races vs. Wisconsin

Syracuse, N.Y. – The 10th-ranked Syracuse First Varsity Eight was edged by No. 12 Wisconsin on Saturday at the James A. Ten Eyck Memorial Boathouse in the first race of the season for both crews. The Orange won the 2V8+ and 3V8+ in front of a packed shoreline for Syracuse and Badger fans.
Wisconsin's First Varsity Eight was led by coxswain Theodore Van Beek and crossed the finish line in 6:08.24 while the Syracuse coxswain Dominic Santora guided the Orange through the line in 6:10.55.
In the 2V8+, Syracuse controlled the pace from the beginning. Led by coxswain Alex Manfredi, the Orange's Second Varsity Eight clocked the fastest time of all three 'Cuse crews on the day finishing in 6:09.10.
The Third Varsity Eight turned into the premiere race coming down to the final 500 meters. Wisconsin took a quick three-seat lead but the Orange stormed back down the stretch to finish in 6:35.40, beating the Badgers by 1.7 seconds.
'Cuse returns to action on Saturday, April 14, at Ten Eyck in hopes of claiming the Goes Trophy for the first time since 2011 when they will face No. 11 Cornell and No. 18 Navy in their annual matchup at 8 a.m.
