SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Ten Home Games, seven 2017 NCAA Tournament qualifiers, 11 teams ranked in the final 2017 NFHCA Coaches' Poll, a pair of national semifinalists and the defending national champion. To be the best, you have to play the best and Syracuse University Head Coach Ange Bradley has done just that when scheduling the 2018 field hockey season.
Complete schedule
Ten of Syracuse's 16 scheduled regular season games will be played at J.S. Coyne Stadium in 2018. Of those 10 contests, five will be against teams that finished the 2017 season ranked in the NFHCA Top-25 including 2017 National Champion UConn on Sept. 9.
"We have 18 underclassmen next year and this schedule is a difficult and very competitive schedule," Bradley said. "We are honored to be able to play on Coyne and in front of our amazing Central New York hockey crowd. Our fans are our 12th player and we look forward to their support."
The Orange open the season Aug. 24, at home against Vermont and will face Albany two days later. 'Cuse travels to Stanford for its first road match of the season the following weekend and will open Atlantic Coast Conference play on the road against Virginia on Friday, Sept. 7, at 5:30 p.m.
The former Syracuse/UConn BIG EAST rivalry will be reinstated on Sunday, Sept. 9. It will be the first regular-season meeting between the Orange and Huskies since 2012. The UConn During that stretch, 'Cuse welcomes Duke, Bucknell, Pacific and Penn to J.S. Coyne Stadium.
The Orange will face 2017 semifinalist North Carolina on the road on Saturday, Sept. 29, before returning home to face Boston College and University of California Berkeley on October 5 and 7, respectively.
'Cuse will play three of its final four regular season games on the road traveling to Wake Forest and St. Joseph's, whom both finished 2017 ranked nationally. In between, the Orange will meet Liberty for a neutral site match in Durham, N.C.
Louisville will be the final regular season home game for the Orange on Oct. 20. The Cardinals won both meetings against Syracuse in 2017, which included a 2-1 double overtime victory in the regular season.
"The schedule will present our group with the opportunity to grow, learn and build our unit to gel for the postseason," Bradley added. "Great competition allows us to learn about ourselves and be challenged to be the best. We want to be the best and this schedule allows us to learn and play the best."
North Carolina will host the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament Nov. 1-4 and the NCAA Tournament first round is set to begin the following weekend.
