SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Sydney 'Syd' Taylor, a goalkeeper from Coatesville, Pa., joins Syracuse Field Hockey's incoming Class of 2018. Taylor is a four-time All-Ches-Mont Conference selection that amassed over 1,000 career saves during her high school career.
"I chose Syracuse because it was the perfect balance of an academic and athletic challenge," Taylor said. "I want to win one or more NCAA National Championships and be the prime athlete I can be."
Taylor earned her 1,000th career save on Oct. 7, 2017 in a 6-0 loss to Great Valley High School when she tallied 37 saves in the game. She finished her career at Coatesville High School with 1,046 saves, 317 of which she made during her senior campaign.
"I am happy to welcome Sydney to our Syracuse family," head coach Ange Bradley said. "Sydney is a great athlete. She is very quick, flexible, strong and is an aggressive and balanced goalkeeper. She communicates well in her circle and takes responsibility for organizing her defense. I look forward to coaching Sydney and assisting in the transition to the turf game."
She was named First Team All-League as a freshman, sophomore and junior and earned second team honors as a senior. Additionally, Taylor was invited to the Senior All-Star Game in 2017.
Taylor plays for X-Calibur Field Hockey Club under head coach Brian Hope. Fellow 2018 signee Sarah Jane 'SJ' Quigley is also a member of X-Calibur.
