The competition:
- Bennie posted his season-best time at the Stanford Invitational in March, 2018, when he ran to a seventh-place finish in 18:37.04. At that race, he also faced Alabama's Vincent Kiprop and Gilbert Kigen, who finished first and third. He also was bested by Clayton Young – who he'll also face in this field.
- At that Stanford Invite, he defeated four other competitors in this NCAA Championship field, including Colorado State's Grant Fischer, Utah State's Dillon Maggard, Southern Utah's Mike Tate and BYU's Connor Mantz.
- His fourth straight appearance at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships, with his best finish in the 10k coming in a 10th-place performance in 2016.
- Bennie also secured 3rd- place in the 5000-meters race at the ACC Outdoor Championships in May of 2018.
- At the prelims, this season, Bennie ran a 29:23.08 race to earn his spot at nationals.
- Bennie is one of the most decorated athletes in Syracuse track and field history, seeking his seventh All-America nod between cross country and track this week.
- He also has been a model student-athlete in his time with the Orange, earning CoSIDA Academic All-District honors for the third time, and could become the first three-time CoSIDA Academic All-American in school history.
- Bennie isn't a newcomer when it comes to championship racing, in addition to his three NCAA Championship cross country races, Bennie will be running in his fifth NCAA track championship race (four outdoor, one indoor).
- Syracuse has had at least one competitor in the 10k in Eugene in six of the last-seven seasons, including each year since 2014.
