Syracuse, N.Y. – Ten years after helping Syracuse University's field hockey team to its first NCAA Final Four appearance in 2008, Lindsey Conrad still thinks about it. Now a high school teacher, wife and mother, Conrad credits playing hockey at 'Cuse for shaping her future.
"Making the Final Four was an unforgettable experience that I still think about often," Conrad said. "The entire 2008 season was a dream. I am so proud and lucky that I was part of a team that helped put Syracuse field hockey on the map and grow into the powerhouse it is today."
To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the 2008 team, Conrad and her teammates will return to campus for a weekend celebration of the milestone on September 21-23.
Conrad was the Atlantic-10 Rookie of the Year in 2006 and transferred to Syracuse in 2007 when head coach Ange Bradley left Richmond to lead the Orange.
After redshirting her true sophomore year due to transfer rules, Conrad started in all 24 games as a redshirt sophomore in 2008. She tallied both of Syracuse's goals against No. 2 Wake Forest in the national semifinals and was named to the Final Four All-Tournament Team.
A second team All-American, Conrad was a BIG EAST First Team honoree and was known for coming up clutch in big moments. She dished the assist in the game- winning goal in the Orange's 3-2 overtime win against Princeton in the second round of the NCAA Tournament and had the helper on the game-winning goal in the BIG EAST Championship game against rival Connecticut.
Conrad currently lives in Alexandria, Va., with her husband and two children where she teaches high school. She is working on her doctorate and is expecting to finish in early 2019.
The 2008 team will return to 'Cuse Sept. 21-23 when Syracuse hosts two home games. The Orange will play Pacific on Friday at 5:30 pm and Penn on Sunday for a 1 pm matinee. Additionally, the team will be recognized during Syracuse's football game in the Carrier Dome against Connecticut.
