
Jecko Earns First International Cap, USWNT Defeats Korea

Osaka, Japan. – Syracuse alumna Jess Jecko earned her first international cap with a 2-1 win over No. 10 Korea in the Sompo Cup Four Nationals Women's Ibaraki International Tournament on Wednesday. Joined by a pair of former teammates, Alyssa Manley and Laura Hurff, the Orange trio won its first game of the round robin tournament in Osaka, Japan.
Korea took a 1-0 lead when Joengihn Kim snuck a shot past Jecko off a rebound. Team USA evened it up when Tara Vittese beat two Korean defenders and pushed past Sanga Lee in goal. In the fourth quarter, Nicole Woods tipped a shot from Kathleen Sharkey in for the 2-1 advantage.
At the end of the game, the Japan Hockey Association presented Jecko with the "Queen of the Game" award for her outstanding game in goal and three shutout periods.
The U.S. returns to action Thursday, Sept. 13, to play No. 15 Japan at 5:30 ET. Fans can watch each game live for the remainder of the five-day tournament.
