9/13/2018 12:10:00 PM | Field Hockey
Wins, losses, tough practices and road trips; the recipe for a college athlete to make life-long friendships. Tracy (Deitrick) Beagen '10 remembers her years as a member of the Syracuse University field hockey team as an amazing time in her life.
Â
As a junior on the 2008 team that made the program's first NCAA Final Four appearance in school history, Beagen appeared in 12 games and scored three goals. 'Cuse posted a 22-2 record en route to winning the BIG EAST Championship and setting the foundation for what head coach Ange Bradley has built at Syracuse today.
Â
Next weekend, Syracuse will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the 2008 Final Four team by welcoming members of the team back to campus.
Â
"Playing field hockey taught me so many things that I used in my career and still use today," Beagen said. "Plus, it gave me some of the most amazing friends, and who are still some of my best friends today."
Â
When reflecting on the 2008 team's run to the Final Four, Beagen says that it took a lot of hard work [to make it to the final four] but it was all with it.
Â
"I feel so lucky to be able to say I was a part of that team, as it was such a special team and special year."
Â
Beagen has been married for nearly five years now and has a one-year-old daughter. She moves around a lot for her husband's career and will be leaving North Carolina for a three-year move to England this fall. She's made sacrifices for her husband's job but her work ethic is
Â
"I started my own company doing freelance surface pattern design jobs," Beagen said. "And for fun I like to work out, go to the beach and take family walks with our two dogs."
Â
The 2008 NCAA Final Four team will return to 'Cuse Sept. 21-23 when Syracuse hosts two home games. The Orange will play Pacific on Friday at 5:30 p.m. and Penn on Sunday for a 1 p.m. matinee. The team will be recognized during Syracuse's football game in the Carrier Dome against Connecticut.
Â
All Syracuse field hockey alumnae are invited to join the celebration. If you plan to attend the 2008 Final Four 10th Anniversary Weekend, please RSVP to Vanessa Jecko (vejecko@syr.edu).
