Â
THE MATCHUPS
Georgia Tech enters the weekend with an 11-2 record following a pair of wins last weekend over Georgia and Arkansas. Ranking second in the ACC standings, Georgia Tech remains a perfect 10-0 at home. Friday's matchup is the second road game of the season for the Yellow Jackets.
Â
Dating back to 2013, the last seven meetings between Georgia Tech and Syracuse have been won by the home team, including a pair of matches last season.
Â
Clemson improved to 9-4 on the season with wins over Villanova and Little Rock at the Sugar Bowl Classic last weekend. The Tigers received runner-up status at the tournament following a 2-1 overall performance where they fell to Tulane. Syracuse is 7-3 all-time against Clemson, including wins in five-straight matchups.
Â
IN FIVE-SETS
The Orange finished the Cyclone Classic with a 2-1 record where they pushed all three matches to five-sets. It was the first time Syracuse had three-straight five-set matches since 2010. After opening the weekend with a 3-2 victory Friday night over Wyoming, Syracuse fell to Iowa and capped off the weekend with a comeback victory over the Cyclones.
Â
BLOCKING PROWESS
Syracuse is among the nation's elite with its dominant presence in the middle. The Orange rank 17th nationally with 2.73 blocks per set and second in the ACC. As a team Syracuse has out blocked or equaled its opponents in five of its eight matches this season. Seniors Santita Ebangwese and Amber Witherspoon have led the attack up front with both ranking in the ACC top-10.
Â
Following a 10 block performance at the Cyclone Classic, Ebangwese ranks fifth all-time in total blocks and block assists at Syracuse. She is also currently ninth in solo blocks.
Â
UP NEXT
The Orange will return to the road for the next two weeks to continue their ACC schedule. Syracuse will take on Wake Forest Sept. 28, before traveling to Duke Sept. 30.
