Weers’ Overtime Goal Lifts No. 12 Orange Past Pacific

Syracuse improves to 5-3 on the season and returns to J.S. Coyne Stadium Sunday for a 1 p.m. clash with Penn. The Orange will honor the 2008 Syracuse Field Hockey Team that went 22-2 and reached the NCAA Final Four for the first time in program history at halftime of Sunday's game.
Pacific (6-4) took an early lead just five minutes into play when Kriekie van Wyk scored on a penalty corner. The Orange controlled most of the first half despite the early deficit. With under a minute to play in the first half, van Wyk scored again off the Tigers' second corner of the game.

Trailing 2-0 at halftime, head coach Ange Bradley swapped Orange goalkeepers for the first time this season. Emma Likly made her first appearance of the season and turned away a Pacific forward on a one-on-one challenge for her first save just minutes into the second half.
Weers scored on a penalty corner in the 58th minute cutting the deficit to one. Less than ten minutes later Weers sent a shot into the circle and connected with Chiara Gutsche who tipped it in to even the game at 2-all, a score that would hold until the end of regulation.
In the 75th minute Weers was the hero once more for Syracuse, tallying the game-winning goal off a corner by Carolin Hoffmann who earned her second assist of the game on the insertion.
The Orange had an 11-3 advantage in penalty corners and outshot the Tigers 12-7 in the win. Likly earned her first career win in goal for the Orange making one save and allowing zero Tiger goals in 40 minutes of action.
'Cuse returns to J.S. Coyne Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 23, for a 1 p.m. match up with Penn. Fans can follow the action live on ACC Network Extra with Jonathan Hoppe and Syracuse Field Hockey alumna Tracy Parker on the call.
