
'Cuse Hosts Penn at 1 pm Sunday

SYRACUSE, N.Y.- The 12th-ranked Syracuse University Field Hockey team hosts Penn (4-3) at 1 p.m. at J.S. Coyne Stadium on Sunday. The Orange ride a two-game win streak into Sunday's non-conference matchup and are coming off Friday night's thrilling come-from-behind 3-2 overtime win over Pacific. At halftime, Syracuse will honor the 2008 field hockey squad that reached the NCAA Final Four for the first time in program history. Fans can catch the action live on ACC Network Extra with Jonathan Hoppe and Syracuse alumna Tracy Parker on the call.Â
The Orange are 5-3 and have scored six goals in their last two games. Sunday's game ends a five-game home stand for 'Cuse in which they are currently 2-2 during the stretch. Roos Weers scored a pair of goals, including the overtime game-winner, against Pacific and is tied with Chiara Gutsche for the team lead with five goals on the season. Weers has two assists for a team-best 12 points while freshman Tess Queen leads Syracuse with five assists.Â
Penn earned a 1-0 win over Cornell on Saturday in its Ivy League opener. The Quakers began the season with a 1-0 double overtime win over No. 14 Wake Forest. Penn is 1-3 against nationally-ranked opponents this season and is led by Rachel Mirkin who has a team-best three goals. The Quakers have been outscored 17-6 by opponents this season and have allowed 2.42 goals per game through seven games.Â
Last season, Penn shocked then-ranked No. 10 Syracuse, 3-2, on their home field. It was the first time the Quakers had been the Orange in program history dating back to their first meeting in 1993.Â
