SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Junior forwards Savannah Rennie and Kelli Rowswell and freshman forward Abby Moloughney each found the back of the net in the Orange's exhibition game Saturday afternoon at Tennity Ice Pavilion, scoring goals for the Syracuse ice hockey team in a 6-3 setback against the Université de Montréal.Â
"All in all, there were a lot of good things," head coach Paul Flanagan said. "The biggest positive is that we played all four lines and had everybody going. I like our depth, and everybody we got in there played effectively. I think we look pretty good from top to bottom."
HOW IT WAS DECIDED
Rennie and Rowswell both scored in the first period of play, as the Orange jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead. Rennie's goal midway through the first period came while Syracuse was playing short-handed after redshirt junior defenseman Lindsay Eastwood was assessed a holding penalty.
Nearly six minutes later, Montreal's Valerie St-Onge was called for holding, and Rowswell made the Carabins pay. Rowswell, assisted by Eastwood, scored on a power play to give the Orange a two-goal advantage.
Syracuse entered the break up 2-1, but opened the second period with a quick strike and regained its two-goal lead. Moloughney scored just two minutes into the period, as the Orange jumped ahead 3-1.
Montreal took control of the game after that, however, scoring four goals in the remainder of the second period before finding the back of the net once in the third period. Syracuse, despite outshooting Montreal 30-19, would go on to lose 6-3.

"We've got to tighten it up defensively. We moved the puck up pretty well, we did some good things finding the open player. Lot of good things to build on. I think it's typical to struggle defensively in the early season, so we're going to have to tighten it up because there's some very explosive teams in our league."

The Orange open the 2018-19 regular season at Boston College Saturday, Oct. 6. The puck drops at 2 p.m.
