The Syracuse University men's rowing team placed both boats, a varsity eight and a varsity four, in the top-15 of their respective races at the Head of the Charles Regatta on Sunday.Â
"Overall it was a solid weekend in Boston," said assistant coach Jason Elefant. "I was happy with the way our crews raced and conducted themselves in a busy environment. We lucked out with the weather this year, which was awesome, and I thought that both of our crews had a solid shot at some clean rowing."Â
"Our boats had a pretty good run at it today," said assistant coach Jason Elefant. "Our Championship 4+ had the fourth overall time, third among colleges, so they were pretty happy about that."Â
The Orange had to steer around crews a few times and had to ease off the pressure, costing them some time, but Syracuse crossed the line in 16:01.915 behind Brown and Dartmouth, respectively. Fiamme Gialle finished first.Â
"The Championship 8+ started 25th in the order and so they had to pass a couple of other crews early on in the piece," said Elefant.
The Orange had a solid position through the halfway mark where they were right in the mix with some of the top crews. During the second part of the race, they hit a bit of a dead zone with no crews around them to push off of and the Orange ended up lost their rhythm around the final bend to finish 14th overall and 8th among college crews.Â
Yale, California, Brown, Harvard, Washington, Northeastern, and Boston U were the college crews ahead of the Orange. Syracuse crossed the finish in 14:07.425 ahead of crews from Harvard, Dartmouth, Princeton, Wisconsin, Penn, Navy and Cornell as well as 'B' crews from Harvard, Yale, Princeton and Northeastern.Â
The Orange have two weeks to prepare for the final race of the fall season, the Cornell Autumn Classic, on Saturday, Nov. 2, in Ithaca, N.Y.Â
