Syracuse, N.Y.- Four former members of the Syracuse field hockey team are competing this weekend in the final stage of qualification for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Alyssa Manley and Jess Jecko join the U.S. women's national team in Bhubaneswar, India for a pair of games against India Nov. 1-2, and Gillian Pinder and Zoe Wilson, longtime members of Ireland's women's national team, host Canada in Dublin on Saturday and Sunday.
Â
There are seven qualifying events, each consisting of a two-match aggregate score series, where the winner of each series will qualify for the Olympics.
Â
All four former players were part of historical seasons during their time with the Orange. Pinder helped Syracuse to the 2012 BIG EAST Championship and an appearance in the 2012 Final Four while Wilson, Manley and Jecko guided the Syracuse to the 2015 National Title, the first national championship in program history.
Â
Pinder and Wilson won a silver medal with Ireland at the 2018 World Cup in London. Manley has twice won a bronze medal in international competition with Team USA, claiming bronze in both the 2017 Lancaster Pan American Cup and 2019 Lima Pan American Games in Lima. Jecko recorded her first cap with the U.S. on Sept. 12, 2018 in the Four Nations Women's Ibaraki International Tournament where she was named 'Queen of the Game' against Korea.
