SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Fresh off a series sweep of one conference foe, the Orange will look to keep that same energy this weekend against another.
The Syracuse women's hockey team faces College Hockey America opponent RIT in a key home-and-home series, beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15 at 6 p.m. Syracuse will then return home on Saturday, Feb. 16, with puck drop set 7 p.m. in the second game.
WHAT'S NEW WITH THE ORANGE
Syracuse currently sits in third in the latest CHA standings with an 8-18-2 overall record, including a 8-5-1 record in conference play.
The Orange are coming off a weekend sweep of Mercyhurst, one in which they tallied ten goals over the course of two games. In Friday's 6-5 thriller, redshirt senior forward Brooke Avery put home the game-winner with just 43 seconds to play. The Orange then erupted for four more goals Saturday, picking up a 4-0 win while junior goaltender Ady Cohen logged her first career shutout.
Syracuse dominated CHA's weekly awards following the sweep. Senior defenseman Allie Munroe was named Player of the Week for the first time this season, as she pushed her team-leading points total to 23, good for fourth best in the conference. Freshman forward Abby Moloughney, meanwhile, was recognized as Rookie of the Week for the first time in her career, and Cohen was crowned Goalie of the Week for the first time in her career, too.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
RIT enters the weekend with a 10-14-4 overall record and sits in fourth place in the conference standings with a 6-8-0 record, five points behind the Orange.
The Tigers are coming off a series split with Lindenwood last weekend, dropping Friday's game, 3-2, before rebounding for a 4-3 win Saturday. The last time the two teams met, the Tigers were in the midst of a four-game winning streak. They have since dropped four of five games since.
Kendall Cornine and Brittney Gout lead the Tigers attack, both scoring 17 points on the year. Cornine leads the team in goals with nine, while Gout leads in assists with 12.
Terra Lanteigne has started all 28 games she's played in net, posting a 2.17 goals against average and CHA-best .939 save percentage.
ABOUT THE SERIES
The Orange dropped both meetings earlier this season against RIT. The first was a 6-4 loss at Tennity Ice Pavilion on Nov. 16, while the second was a 4-2 loss in Rochester on Jan. 11.
Syracuse is 19-9-2 all-time versus the Tigers.
WHAT LIES AHEAD
The Orange play their last two regular-season home games next weekend against Lindenwood. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 22 at Tennity Ice Pavilion. Syracuse and Lindenwood will then complete the series at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23.
