Orange busy in Boston as well
Syracuse was all-over the U.S. Track and Field Cross Country Championships on Saturday, with four current and former Orange standouts turning in top-11 performances at the event.
Â
Michael Phillips and Matthew Scrape turned in top-11 performances at the USATF Junior Cross Country Championships on Saturday. Philips finished eighth in 24:56.7, while Scrape took 11th in 25:05.6. The cross country championships headlined a busy day for 'Cuse, which also had competitors in Boston as well.
The top-six make the U.S. team for the World XC Championships, with Phillips missing the team by 10 seconds.
The Orange were also well represented in the men's and women's 10k. 2016 alum Martin Hehir (29:37.5) finished 10th overall in the men's event, while Sarah Pagano (33:44.0) also took 10th for the women.
Hehir, who's now competing professionally for Reebok Boston Track Club with a host of other Orange alums, placed ninth while helping lead 'Cuse to the 2015 NCAA Championship. Pagano, an All-American on the track at SU, now competes for Boston Athletic Association after graduating in 2014.
As for the current Orange, other members of the track team continued their weekend swing to Boston to compete at the Bruce Lehane Invitational.
The hurdles duo of Andrew Aguilera and Chevis Armstead took fourth and fifth in the 60-meter hurdles, respectively. Aguilera finished in 8.32 seconds, while Armstead crossed the line in 8.36 seconds.
Â
Eunice Boateng turned in a seventh-place performance in the 200-meter run with a time of 24.53, before Aviana Goode cleared 1.65 meters in the high jump.
Simon Smith was the lone distance competitor at the meet for the Orange. He finished 19th in the mile in 4:10.91.
Syracuse is back in action next weekend at the Iowa State Classic and back in Boston at the David Hemrey Invitational.
