SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange are on the road. The No. 25-ranked Syracuse women's tennis team begins a four-match road swing this weekend, first taking on Atlantic Coast Conference opponents Louisville and Notre Dame.
The Orange play Louisville at 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22 and meet Notre Dame at 11 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 24.
WHAT'S NEW WITH THE ORANGE
Syracuse (6-4, 0-2 ACC) overpowered Harvard from start to finish last Sunday afternoon at Drumlins Country Club, helping continue the dominance of Ivy League programs this season. The Orange are 3-0 against schools in the Ivy League this year.
In the Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association's latest singles poll, senior Gabriela Knutson moved up six spots to No. 42. Junior Miranda Ramirez checked in at No. 71.
As a team, Syracuse, previously ranked No. 19 in the country, is No. 25 in the newest rankings. The Orange are one of 10 ACC teams to appear in the top-50 poll.
SCOUTING THE CARDINALS
Louisville is 9-2 overall and 1-0 in ACC play. The Cardinals are riding a two-match losing streak, however, suffering back-to-back losses against Nebraska and Wichita State.
Junior Raven Neely and sophomore Nikolina Jovic are leading Louisville in singles play through the early part of the season. Neely and Jovic are a combined 20-2 in singles matches this spring.
Neely is also part of the Cardinals' top doubles duo. She pairs with senior Sena Suswam at the No. 1 spot, where they have a 5-2 record this season.
SCOUTING THE IRISH
Notre Dame is 7-2 overall and 1-0 in ACC play. The Irish have won four consecutive matches, sweeping their last three opponents - Purdue, Michigan State and Wright State.
The Irish's top doubles duo of sophomore Cameron Corse and junior Zoe Spence are ranked No. 44 nationally. They are 8-4 together this season.
Corse, who has won her last 10 singles matches, plays at the No. 4 position, while Spence is the Irish's top singles player.
