SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The No. 10 Syracuse women's tennis team heads to Seattle this Friday, Feb. 8, to make its first-ever appearance at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Team Indoor Championship. The Orange will play No. 7 Pepperdine in the opening round, with first serve set for 12 p.m. ET.
SCOUTING THE WAVES
Pepperdine, ranked seventh in the country, enters the contest with a 2-0 record, coming off two wins at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend tournament. The Waves cruised to 4-0 wins in duals against UNLV and Denver.
The Waves are led by Evgeniya Levashova, who is ranked No. 17 in singles, and teammate Jessica Failla, who comes in at No. 28 in singles. Pepperdine also boasts the nation's top-ranked doubles team of Levashova and Ashley Lahey.
WHAT'S NEW WITH THE ORANGE
Syracuse dropped its second straight match last Sunday in a tightly-contested dual at Boston College. The loss moved the Orange to 4-2 overall and 0-2 in ACC play.
The Orange went down early after losing the doubles point and the first two singles matches, but they managed to erase the three-point deficit. Syracuse could not complete the comeback, though, ultimately losing 4-3 to the Eagles.
Senior Gabriela Knutson and junior Miranda Ramirez, meanwhile, appeared in the latest edition of the Oracle/ITA's singles rankings. Knutson dropped five spots to No. 48, while Ramirez, ranked for the first time this spring, is No. 67 in the country.
WHAT LIES AHEAD
After finishing up at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship this weekend, the Orange come home to face Colorado on Feb. 15. First serve inside Drumlins Country Club is set for 3 p.m.
