
'Cuse, Kentucky Meet For Midweek Contest

LEXINGTON, KY. – The Syracuse softball team continues its stretch of nine road games in 11 days with a mid-week matchup at #15/18 Kentucky. The Orange will take on the Wildcats at 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
The first ever meeting between the two programs will be broadcast on SEC Network +. The Wildcats are the fifth ranked opponent of the season for Syracuse.
Syracuse (8-13) enters Lexington following a 3-2 performance at the Colorado State Classic. The Orange saw its offense come together, batting .364 as a team. Neli Casares-Maher and Toni Martin led 'Cuse, both hitting above .500. Casares-Maher was 7-of-12 with five RBIs that included three doubles and a team-best seven runs scored. Martin slugged a team-best 1.545 in a 6-of-11 performance at the plate. The junior knocked in two home runs in addition to her three doubles.
Alexa Romero (4-3) picked up two wins on the weekend, including a complete five-inning game against Wagner where she struck out nine. Romero returned to the circle to throw five innings against Dayton, retiring nine of the first 10 batters with strikeouts.
The Orange, who rank second in the ACC in double plays per game, turned an impressive five against their opponents in Fort Collins.
Kentucky (15-7) is one of seven 2019 opponents for Syracuse who made the NCAA Tournament last season. The Wildcats are riding a six-game win streak following an impressive road series sweep at then-#13/11 South Carolina and outscored them 21-3 in the three-games.
The Wildcats junior pitcher Autumn Humes was named SEC Pitcher of the Week after throwing 8.2 scoreless innings and allowing only three hits. Humes threw a complete-game shutout in the opening game of the series before earning the save on Sunday.
Syracuse continues its stretch of games in the Bluegrass State with an ACC-opening series against Louisville on March 15-17. The Orange open ACC play Friday at 6 p.m. before playing a Saturday matinee at 1 p.m. and concluding the series Sunday at 12 p.m. All three games will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
