
Boston College Tops Syracuse, 10-2

CHESTNUT HILL, MASS. – A seven-run second inning was all Boston College (10-16, 3-3 ACC) needed to surpass Syracuse (9-18, 1-4 ACC), 10-2, Saturday afternoon despite a solid relief outing in the circle from Miranda Hearn.
Hearn entered the game with one out in the second inning before going the distance. The sophomore allowed two runs on six hits with two strikeouts. Toni Martin led Syracuse at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two extra-base hits.
Syracuse delivered the first punch, scoring its lone two runs in the opening frame. In the leadoff spot, Gabby Teran took a hit by pitch before advancing to second on a pass ball. A sac bunt by Alicia Hansen advanced Teran to third. Bryce Holmgren drew her 13th walk of the season before a sacrifice fly allowed Teran to score. Martin's triple brought Holmgren home from first for the 2-0 lead.
The Orange weren't able to hold onto their lead for long, as Boston College had an eight-hit, seven-run second inning. 'Cuse wrangled in the first two outs of the inning before a walk and three consecutive singles gave Boston College the 4-2 lead. A two-RBI double followed by two more singles extended the lead 8-2.
Hearn found her zone in the third inning, despite giving up a leadoff single. The next batter reached on a fielders' choice, retiring the lead runner, before Syracuse caught her stealing and forced a groundout to end the inning. Hearn shutout the Eagles through the next two innings, before a pair of hits in the sixth scored a pair of runs to end the game.
The final game of the series is set for tomorrow at 1 p.m.
