
'Cuse Welcomes Notre Dame to Skytop

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Following a successful home opener, the Syracuse softball team continues its home stand for its first home conference series of the season. Syracuse (12-18, 2-4 ACC) welcomes Notre Dame (19-10, 3-3 ACC) to Skytop for a three-game series, March 29-30. The Orange and Fighting Irish open the adjusted schedule Friday with a 4 p.m. start time before a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m.
Syracuse is coming off a doubleheader sweep of Niagara Wednesday evening, winning the pair of games by a combined score of 19-12. Junior Alexa Romero led the way, earning her sixth win of the season all while eclipsing 500 career strikeouts. Romero started game one, fanning 10 in the five-inning win, before picking up the save in game two.
Alicia Hansen has hit her stride in conference play, batting a team-best .357 with five hits, two runs scored, two doubles, two RBIs and four walks.
The Orange are averaging 0.33 triples per game, ranking 33rd nationally and fifth in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Additionally, 'Cuse holds top-100 national marks in double plays per game (0.36), doubles per game (1.32) and triples per game (0.29).
Notre Dame (19-10, 3-3 ACC), who has won 13 of its last 16 games, owns a 27-7 lead in the series which includes an 8-2 record with both teams as members of the ACC. The Fighting Irish rank third in the ACC with a .307 batting average while Cait Brooks leads the conference with a .922 slugging percentage. Additionally, Brooks ranks 11th in the nation and second in the ACC with 12 home runs. Allie Wester leads Notre Dame with a .431 batting average.
The Irish have a dynamic duo in the circle with Payton Tidd and Alexis Holloway who have combined for 18 of Notre Dame's 19 wins. Tidd leads the Irish with 78 innings pitched and a 2.51 earned run average followed by Holloway's 2.78 ERA.
The Orange head back on the road next Wednesday, April 3 for a 4 p.m. doubleheader against Canisius before returning to conference play for a three-game series against NC State, April 5-7.
