
Orange Battle Notre Dame in Semifinals on ESPNU

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The No. 18/16 Syracuse women's basketball team advanced to the semifinals of the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament for the second time in program history on Friday with a thrilling win over No. 16 Miami, 92-85, and will play No. 4 Notre Dame on Saturday at noon on ESPNU.
Syracuse (24-7) set an ACC Tournament record with 14 3-pointers in its quarterfinal matchup with the Hurricanes. Five different Orange players scored in double-digits, including a team high of 25 points from Tiana Mangakahia. Additionally, she tied the ACC Tournament record with 13 assists in a game.
The top-seeded Irish avenged a regular season loss to North Carolina in the quarterfinals on Friday with 95-77 win. Arike Ogunbowale poured in a game-high 28 points highlighted by five three-pointers and senior Brianna Turner posted her fourth straight 20-plus point performance.
The Orange and Fighting Irish met two weeks ago in the Carrier Dome where Mangakahia posted a team-high 17 points, all of which were scored in the second half. Syracuse could not keep pace with the Irish, however, and loss by 30, 98-68.
Syracuse is in pursuit of its first win against the Fighting Irish during the Quentin Hillsman era. Notre Dame leads the all-time series 33-2, with a 1-2 advantage in neutral site games. The last time these two teams faced off in postseason play was in 2016, where Notre Dame defeated 'Cuse 68-57 in the ACC Tournament Final. Last time Syracuse beat Notre Dame was in the 2002 BIG EAST Tournament where the Orange won 84-79 in the semifinals. Syracuse went on to make its second NCAA Tournament appearance in program history that year.
The winner of Saturday's matchup will advance to the finals on Sunday and will play the winner of the Louisville/NC State semifinal which begins at 2:30 p.m. on ESPNU.
