
Softball Set for First Series Against Duke

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – A Syracuse-Duke matchup is set to take place on the softball field for the first time this weekend, April 12-14, as Syracuse (17-20, 6-6 ACC) welcomes the Blue Devils (21-22, 8-7 ACC) to Skytop Stadium.
The adjusted series schedule begins Friday, April 12 for a 2 p.m. first pitch. The teams return to action Saturday at 1 p.m. before concluding the three-game series Sunday at 11 a.m. Admission is free and all three games will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
Syracuse returns home following its second-consecutive ACC series win last weekend taking a pair of wins against NC State. The Orange won the opening game of the series 5-2 before NC State evened it up, 7-2, in the second game. 'Cuse took the rubber match on Sunday, winning 5-3. Alexa Romero (11-5) earned both wins in the circle for 'Cuse striking out 20 batters over the weekend in 14 innings pitched. Romero is 32nd nationally and second in the ACC with 8.7 strikeouts per seven innings.
The Orange have seen a balanced offense recently, led by Alicia Hansen who is batting .353 in conference play with 12 hits and a .471 slugging percentage.
In the programs' second year, Duke is looking to rebound after being swept last weekend by then-#24 Virginia Tech. The Blue Devils had a pair of midweek victories against Radford and Charlotte.
Jameson Kavel leads Duke with a .314 batting average and is 21st nationally in doubles with 13. The Blue Devils' only series sweep of the season came against Georgia Tech March 29-31 where Kristina Foreman recorded multiple hits and at least one run in each game. Foreman went 9-for-15 at the plate for a .600 batting average including three RBI, two homeruns and a stolen base.
The Blue Devils are helped in the circle by a staff of four pitchers who have all seen over 60 innings this season. Peyton St. George has a team-best 2.35 earned run average with 68 strikeouts this season.
Following the weekend series, Syracuse is set for a midweek April 17 against Colgate before returning home to host ACC-opponent, Pitt, April 19-21. The three game series against Pitt will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
