
Softball Faces Colgate in Midweek Contest

The Syracuse softball team is set to take the short trip to Hamilton, N.Y. to face Colgate in a midweek contest Wednesday, April 17 at 4 p.m. The matchup will be the 12th all-time between the two programs, as Syracuse holds the 8-3 advantage in the series. Syracuse (18-22) enters the week following a three-game series against Duke. In the first meeting between the two programs, the Orange took game one, 4-0. The Blue Devils took the final two games to close out the weekend by scores of 5-1 and 3-2. Alexa Romero (12-7) took all three decisions last weekend for 'Cuse, including the 4-0 shutout victory. The shutout is the 11th of her career, moving her into a tie for third all-time at Syracuse. Romero leads the conference with 82 strikeouts in ACC play.

Offensively, the Orange continues to be led by Alicia Hansen. Hansen is batting a team-best .331, which includes a .409 average against conference opponents. The senior also ranks second in the ACC with 0.20 sacrifice hits per game and is tied for sixth with 17 stolen bases.

Wednesday marks Colgate's home opener, following 38-straight games on the road to open their season. Colgate (17-21) looks to rebound following three losses to Boston University last weekend. The Raiders lead the Patriot League in home runs per game (0.61) and are second with a .409 slugging percentage. Senior Meghan Romero leads the team with a .350 batting average and is second in the conference with 14 doubles this season. Sophomore pitcher Bella Crow has seen a bulk of the innings for Colgate this season pitching 104.2 innings with a 3.68 ERA. Â
