
Orange Set to Open Fall Season at Princeton

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse women's tennis team returns to the court this weekend to kick off its fall season. The Orange travel to Princeton, N.J., for the three-day Princeton Invitational (Sept. 13-15). All of Syracuse's players will be in attendance, including seniors Miranda Ramirez and Guzal Yusupova, along with freshman newcomers Kim Hansen, and Polina Kozyreva. A full rundown of the weekend schedule is below

MEET THE ORANGE
Ramirez returns following her team-best 18 singles victories in 2018. Her junior season was highlighted by her earning All-ACC Third Team honors and beating three nationally ranked opponents. Ramirez picked up 14 doubles victories throughout the season as well.

Junior Sofya Golubovskaya, who played much of last season in second and third singles, finished last year with 12 singles wins and 8 doubles wins. Her straight-set singles win vs. Stanford was the Orange's lone win in the second round of the NCAA tournament.

Debuting for the Orange in Princeton will be Kozyreva and Hansen. Hansen is a three-time Dutch national champion and has 28 singles victories and 33 doubles victories throughout her career. Kozyreva has had an extended junior and professional career in which she collectively won 16 career singles and four career doubles matches, including the 2017 Akademia Tennisa U16 Governor's Cup.

As a unit, Syracuse went 14-13 (5-9 ACC) last season and reached the second round of both the ACC and NCAA Tournaments. The Orange were led by Gabriela Knutson who concluded her career as the second-winningest competitor in program history on March 20 after going down in the opening round of the NCAA Singles Championship.

THE OPPONENTS
Princeton, the host university, finished last season with a 19-5 record, going a perfect 7-0 in the Ivy League and 6-0 at home. Princeton's season ultimately ended with a second round loss to Washington at the NCAA Tournament.

Temple finished last season with a 13-7 record while going 0-3 in their conference. Their season ended with a loss to Memphis in the first round of the American Athletic Conference Championship.

Rutgers posted a 9-12 record last season including a 1-10 record in Big Ten play.

LOOKING AHEAD
Syracuse will travel to Wisconsin next week for the Milwaukee Tennis Classic, Sept. 20-23.
