
Shemanova Named to All-ACC Academic Volleyball Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Syracuse sophomore Polina Shemanova has been named to the 2019 All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Academic Volleyball Team, the conference announced on Wednesday. This is the second consecutive selection to the team for the Orange captain.
The 2019 All-ACC Academic Volleyball Team is composed of 37 student-athletes from 12 different schools. Pittsburgh and Georgia tech led in number of athletes that appear on the list, having six each. Florida State, Louisville, and Notre Dame had four, with North Carolina following at three. Two students were represented from Miami, and Boston College, Clemson, NC State, Syracuse, and Wake Forest had one representative each.
Shemanova is a communication and rhetorical Studies major in the College of Visual and Performing Arts. A gifted singer and ukulele player, she is also pursuing a minor in music performance. Shemanova is also a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), earned a spot on the 2019 ACC Academic Honor Roll and has qualified for the SU Athletic Director's Honor Roll in all three of her completed semesters at Syracuse.
The St. Petersburg, Russia native was tabbed First Team All-ACC in 2019 after leading the conference in kills (485), setting a program record with 5.16 kills per set and posting a Syracuse record 36 kills in a Nov. 3 victory against Louisville. She also earned First Team honors last season and was the 2018 ACC Freshman of the Year after tallying an Orange freshman record 447 kills.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester, and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
