Orange Sweep Boston College, Host Eagles Again Saturday

Sophomores Marina Markova and Abby Casiano led the 14th-ranked Orange in a 3-0 victory against Boston College. Markova recorded a season-best 12 kills, including putting away kills to end the first and second sets. She then scored two of Syracuse's first five points on kills in the third set. Casiano paced the defense with six blocks and had eight kills. Syracuse (3-4 overall, 3-4 Atlantic Coast Conference) will play Boston College (0-5, 0-5) again on Saturday at 5 pm (ACC Network Extra) in the final match of the fall season.
In the first set, Casiano led the Orange to their 25-21 victory with five blocks and two kills. She had four blocks in a 5-2 run that gave Syracuse a 22-17 lead. Senior Yuliia Yastrub contributed two kills and two blocks in the stretch that Syracuse pulled away for the first set victory.
Markova sparked the Orange in their 25-22 second set victory with five kills. Trailing 20-17, the Orange fought back to close the set on an 8-4 run, sparked by a kill by junior Polina Shemanova to bring Syracuse within one, 20-19. After Casiano then tied the score at 20, the Orange took lead for good on a service ace from freshman Lauren Hogan. Markova closed the second set victory with a kill.
Syracuse opened the third set scoring 12 of their first 14 points on kills. During the stretch that gave the Orange a 14-12 lead, senior Ella Saada and Markova each had three kills. Shemanova gave Syracuse the lead for good on a kill that made the score 12-11. Casiano closed the match with a block and a kill to score the final two points in the Orange victory.
Hogan, who ranks ninth in the nation in digs, had 22 in the match, while senior Elena Karakasi, who is 13th nationally in assists, recorded 36 against the Eagles.

The Orange will host Boston College in the second of the two-match home stand on Saturday, October 17 (5 pm, ACC Network Extra).
