Winston-Salem, N.C. - Carly Bothof scored her first career goal in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 2-1Â win over Wake Forest. The Orange improve to 2-2 in the conference and 2-3 overall. Syracuse and Wake Forest will play again in a non-conference matinee on Monday, Oct. 19 at noon. Fans can stream the game live on ACCNX through the WatchESPN app.Â
Â
Wake Forest took an early lead when Meike Lanckohr scored on a pass from Eleanor Winants in the fourth minute of the game. Two minutes later Charlotte de Vries evened the scoreboard with an unassisted goal. It marked her second goal of the season and 17th of her career.Â
The two teams held the tie through the first half with Wake Forest holding a 7-1 advantage over Syracuse on shots and a 4-0 advantage in penalty corners.Â
Syracuse's defense was impressive for the third-straight game and has allowed just one goal on a penalty corner in the opponents last 11 opportunities while Syd Taylor has a 1.0 goals against average during the two-game span.Â
With 11 minutes remaining in regulation, Bothof scored the eventual game-winning goal. Her initial shot was deflected by Wake Forest's goalkeeper but a defensive misplay by the Demon Deacons led to a scramble in front of the goal where Bothof connected to tap in the first goal of her Syracuse career.Â
The Orange continue their streak of one-goal games this season to five with a 2-3 record. Syracuse and Wake Forest will play a non-conference game Monday at 12 p.m. before 'Cuse returns home with over a week to prepare for the ACC's only unbeaten team, Louisville (5-0), on Oct. 30.Â
Â
"I am very proud of the teams ability to adjust and grow throughout this game," Syracuse head coach Ange Bradley said. "We found a way to get the result against a very good and tough Wake Forest team."
