
Markova and Hogan Earn ACC Honors

In a sweep of the Atlantic Coast Conference volleyball weekly awards Marina Markova and Lauren Hogan earned the league Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week awards, respectively.
A sophomore from St. Petersburg, Russia, Markova led Syracuse to two 3-0 victories against Boston College to win the ACC Player of the Week award. In the six sets she had 26 kills, seven blocks and two aces, and three digs. She ranks 21st nationally in blocks per set.
In the first Syracuse win, Markova recorded 12 kills, including putting away kills to end the first and second sets. Markova sparked the Orange in their 25-22 second set victory with five kills. She then scored two of Syracuse's first five points on kills in the third set.
In the second Orange victory on Saturday, Markova recorded a season-best 14 kills and had four blocks, to lead Syracuse. She sparked the Orange to a 12-6 lead in the first set with three kills. In the second set, Markova had two of Syracuse's six kills to open the set and take a 7-1 lead and force a BC timeout. In the third set, after the Eagles pulled to within two, 21-19, Markova registered back-to-back kills to make the score 23-19, force a BC timeout, and propel the Orange to the win.
Hogan, who ranks eighth nationally in digs per set (4.86) and is one of two freshmen in the top 10, is the ACC Rookie of the Week. The freshman from Loveland, Ohio, had 37 digs including 22 in the 3-0 win on Friday, and three service aces in Syracuse's sweep of Boston College. On Saturday, she served back-to-back aces to propel the Orange to a 25-9 set two win.
