
Yusupova, Rehfuss Named Syracuse University Scholar-Athletes of the Week

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Guzal Yusupova (tennis ) and Stephen Rehfuss (men's lacrosse) are the Syracuse Scholar-Athletes of the Week for the week of March 23.

Yusupova is a senior human development and family science major in the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics. She earned a spot on the spring 2019 Athletic Director's Honor Roll and was previously a member of the Central Asia and Caucasus (CAC) research group. Yusupova also interned with Refugee and Immigrant Self-Empowerment (RISE) during her time at Syracuse University, and volunteered at Orange football and basketball games.

The Qarshi, Uzbekistan, native played every match at No. 1 singles for the Orange and added 23 victories during the 2019-20 season. Her 139 career victories rank ninth in program history, and she's the fifth 'Cuse tennis player to reach 100 wins in the last decade. No. 23 Syracuse concluded the year with an 8-3 (3-2 ACC) record. The season featured 'Cuse starting the year on a 6-0 tear, along with Syracuse's three freshmen (Kim Hansen, Polina Kozyreva and Zeynep Erman) all starting the year 4-0 in singles play. The Orange also topped No. 15 Notre Dame, 4-3, at home.

Rehfuss is pursuing a master's degree in information management in the iSchool. The Latham, N.Y., native earned his undergraduate degree in communication and rhetorical studies in the College of Visual and Performing Arts. Rehfuss earned a spot on the 2019 ACC All-Academic Team and has twice been an ACC Honor Roll selection. Rehfuss ranks 18th all-time in Syracuse history in career assists and owns two of the top-three highest single-game assists totals this century.

Rehfuss started all five games of the shortened 2020 season and recorded 20 points (2-18). His seven-assist performance against John Hopkins on March 7 earned him a spot on the USILA National Team of the Week and also led to him earning ACC Offensive Player of the Week honors. Rehfuss' 3.6 assists per game led the ACC and were third nationally. His 20 points are tied for second-most on the team, and he led all non-faceoff specialists at Syracuse with 15 ground balls.

'Cuse (5-0) finished the 2020 season ranked No. 1 in the Inside Lacrosse/Maverik Media Poll. The Orange took over the top-spot on March 7 following a 15-9 victory over John Hopkins. 'Cuse outscored the competition 83-47 this year.Â
