SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse University football team added another member to its incoming class last night.
Â
Linebacker Anwar Sparrow, a native of Virginia Beach, Virgnia, signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) with the Orange and is expected to join the program for the upcoming season. Sparrow is the second linebacker in the Class of 2020 to sign with Syracuse, joining early enrollee Stefon Thompson. Sparrow is rated the No. 30 overall prospect in Virginia by 247Sports.com.
Â
Sparrow was a three-year starter and two-time All-Tidewater selection at Salem High School. He logged 103 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, four sacks, four forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries as a senior en route to 2019 Virginia Beach District Defensive Player of the Year honors. Sparrow was also named to the 2019 Virginia High School League (VHSL) All-State Second Team.
Â
Sparrow's addition raises Syracuse's number of signees to 23, the majority of whom signed during the NCAA's early signing period in December. Offensive lineman Chris Bleich also transferred into the program from the University of Florida this spring.
Â
Syracuse Athletics plans on hosting sporting events for the upcoming 2020-21 academic year. However, due to the uncertain nature of COVID-19, game schedules are subject to change. The Orange are currently set to begin the 2020 campaign on Sept. 4 at Boston College and host Colgate on Sept. 19 in their home opener.
Â
Fans who have not renewed their season tickets have until May 22 to commit to Syracuse's six home games utilizing one of three options. One of those options is the "Commit Now, Pay Later" program, which features payment plans that begin in July and conclude in October.
