Shemanova Earns ACC Player of the Week Honors

Junior Polina Shemanova picked up where she left off last season, earning recognition for her volleyball performance. The two-time Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) First Team selection is the ACC co-Player of the Week after leading Syracuse to a sweep of Pittsburgh.
In Syracuse's two wins against the three-time defending ACC champions Shemanova had 28 kills, 28 digs and eight blocks.
In the 5-set victory on Friday, she had 20 kills, 18 digs, five blocks and one ace. She sparked Syracuse to a fast start in the second set with three consecutive kills for a 4-1 lead. Syracuse never trailed in the set. In the third set she had five kills, one block and one ace to anchor a Syracuse rally that started at 14-8 and took the Orange to the 26-24 win of the set.
On Saturday, Shemanova had eight blocks, 10 digs and three blocks in the 3-0 Syracuse win. Shemanova sparked the Orange at the end of the first set with a pair of kills and a block.
The Syracuse sweep of Pittsburgh marked the first time since the start of the 2017 season, and the last time that Pitt lost back-to-back ACC matches since 2017.
Shemanova is approaching the 1,000 career kills milestone. She has 960 through 55 matches. Last season she set the Syracuse single-match record with 36 against Louisville and led the ACC with 485 for the season.

The Orange return to the court with a pair of matches at Notre Dame on Friday, October 2nd (7 pm) and Saturday, October 3rd (6 pm ).
