PRINCETON, N.J. -- Three underclassmen will represent the Orange as the trio sets their sights on a winning weekend at the ITA Northeast Super Regionals in Princeton, N.J. Sophomore Viktoriya Kanapatskaya and the freshman duo of Shiori Ito and Miyuka Kimoto will begin play on Friday, Oct. 15. Ito will compete in singles play as well.
Kanapatskaya will continue her busy fall run in Princeton. The reigning All-American is slated to compete against the region's best in singles play, beginning with Harvard freshman Rachel Arbitman. Kanapatskaya began the fall season with a victory in her Columbia Invitational doubles draw with Ines Fonte, but she recently lost in consecutive matches to tough competition at the ITA All-American Championships.
Newcomers Ito and Kimoto will look to build on a successful weekend earlier this month at the ITA Northeast Regionals as they share the court for a second tournament. The duo won three matches with a combined game score of 24-11 to clinch a trip to Super Regionals. The 'Cuse freshmen will open their doubles run Friday.Â
Both Ito and Kimoto posted straight-set singles victories in Philadelphia as well. Ito went on to win a thrilling match against Princeton's Maia Sung, 6-3, 3-6, 10-7, to earn a spot in Super Regionals singles play. The Japan native will duel against Sung in a regionals rematch to open the round of 32 in Princeton.
Super Regionals play will run through the weekend and conclude on Monday, Oct. 18.
