Kanapatskaya Fights on to Super Regional Semis

PRINCETON, N.J. -- Reigning All-American Viktoriya Kanapatskaya won two matches on Saturday at the ITA Northeast Super Regionals to advance to the semifinals. Syracuse's top player will face off against the tournament's top seed, Princeton's Victoria Hu, at 10 a.m. on Sunday.

Kanapatskaya began her long day on the Princeton campus against the hosting school's Neha Velaga. After dropping the first set quickly, 6-1, Kanapatskaya battled back and took consecutive tight sets at 7-6, 7-6 (5), to advance to the quarterfinals. Up next was Yale's Jessie Gong, who topped the Orange sophomore at the Columbia Invitational earlier this fall, 6-4, 2-6, 10-3. Kanapatskaya handled the quarterfinal match with ease, taking the two sets by scores of 7-5 and 6-1, to set up Sunday's semifinal showdown. Kanapatskaya's next opppnent, Victoria Hu, was ranked the No. 9 newcomer this season by the ITA.
