Men's Rowing Set for Head of the Charles
10/21/2021 7:23:00 AM | Men's Rowing
The Syracuse men's rowing team will travel to Cambridge, Mass., for the annual Head of the Charles Regatta on Sunday. After a one year hiatus from the race, the Orange look to capitalize on a 14th-place finish in the Championship Eight, which was eighth best among US colleges, and fourth-place finish in the Championship Four, third among US college crews, in 2019.
This year's Championship Eight entry includes six of the eight oarsmen from last spring's Varsity Eight that finished fourth at the IRA National Championship.
"I am excited to be back in Boston, it has been a while," said Jacopo Bertone, 2-seat in the Championship Eight. "The guys and I are looking forward to improving our 14th-place finish in 2019 and climbing the ladder. We put in a lot of hard work over the last few months and I am sure it will pay off down the race course."
The Championship Eight race is set the start at 1:47 p.m. EST and Syracuse will start off seventh in a field of 19 crews.Â
This year's Championship Four entry will include some experience on the boat. Sophomore Alex DeGrado and junior Ryan Elsinga are two members of last spring's Second Varsity Eight. Set to join the two in the Championship 4+ will be senior Max Moltzan, sophomore coxswain Mark Ezaki and freshman Isaac Evans.Â
The Orange will begin fifth in the start order in the field of 16 boats in the Championship Four. The race is set to start before the Championship Eight at 1:16 p.m. EST.
