#11 Orange Win Sixth Straight

The Orange are on a roll. No. 11 Syracuse earned its fourth-straight shutout on Sunday afternoon with a 3-0 win over Columbia (6-3) at J.S. Coyne Stadium. It was the sixth-straight win for 'Cuse, which improves to 8-2 overall after a 2-0 weekend at home.
Pleun Lammers scored twice and Charlotte de Vries found the back of the net for her fifth goal in the last six games for Syracuse. Lammers' first goal was in the seventh minute of play when a pass from defender Sienna Pegram from outside the circle connected with the Orange striker 10 yards out. Lammers juked two Columbia players and made a quick turnaround shot to put the Orange ahead 1-0.
Lammers' second goal of the game was an unassisted reverse chip shot in the 25th minute giving 'Cuse a two-goal lead. De Vries went top cheddar on a reverse chip of her own to make it 3-0 at halftime. Syracuse made a goalkeeper change at halftime and Louise Pert continued the clean slate for the Orange. Pert and fellow freshman goalkeeper Brooke Borzymowski have now combined for three shutouts this season.
Syracuse dominated the Lions from start to finish. The Orange outshot Columbia 22-1, with Columbia's lone shot coming in the final two minutes of action at Coyne. Syracuse had a 6-0 advantage in penalty corners and tallied 12 shots on goal in the win.
The Orange return to action next weekend for a pair of home games. First, Syracuse faces Wake Forest (5-5, 1-2 ACC) on Friday, Oct. 8 at 6 p.m. on ACCNX. Following Friday's ACC game against the Demon Decons, Syracuse hosts central New York foe Colgate (0-7) on Sunday for Alumni Day. At halftime of Sunday's game the Orange will recognize former Syracuse hockey player Christy Gaitten, who lost her battle with cancer this past spring. Gaitten was a fierce competitor on the turf and is remembered and loved by her Syracuse field hockey family to this day.
Orange to Celebrate 50 Years of Syracuse University women's athletics
Orange alumni, fans and friends are invited to share in a year-long celebration of 50 years of Syracuse University women's athletics. Events and special recognition of all female student-athletes who have donned the Block S to represent Syracuse University and the Athletics Department since 1971-72 will be held throughout the 2021-22 seasons. As we celebrate this history, we acknowledge those who have gone before us to set the standard we strive to achieve today so we can pave the way for the future. We reflect on the history of women in sport, admire their sacrifices, recognize their contributions and accomplishments, and honor their legacy.
Kickoff Weekend is set for October 7th through 10th, beginning with the ice hockey home opener against Clarkson on Thursday, October 7th at 6 pm in the Tennity Ice Pavilion. All former student-athletes, fans and friends of Syracuse University Athletics are invited back to campus to begin the celebrate 50 years of women's athletics during multiple events. Syracuse field hockey has two home games during kickoff weekend, Friday vs. Wake Forest at 6 p.m. and Sunday vs. Colgate at 1 p.m. Admission is FREE to all regular season home games at J.S. Coyne Stadium. All fans attending games must adhere to Syracuse University's COVID-19 policy, which can be found here.
