10/31/2021 3:45:00 PM | Volleyball
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Orange lost to Florida State 3-2 on Sunday in Tallahassee. Junior Marina Markova had a career day with 33 kills, the third most kills in a single match in Syracuse history. Sophomore Lauren Hogan recorded a career-high 31 digs, and senior Elena Karakasi tied her season-high with 58 assists.
"This was a good match," said head coach Leonid Yelin. "We played really well against a good Florida State team, we just couldn't close out at the end. Marina played really well today. To me, she looked like an All-American First Team. Abby produced well today, too. Her energy is always huge for our team."
The Orange (15-9 overall, 4-8 ACC) battled back to tie the match at 2-2 after losing the first two sets, 25-22 and 25-23. Set three was a tight contest until the Seminoles went on a late 3-0 rally to go up 19-16. Syracuse answered with a 7-0 run to take the lead, 23-19. Two challenges by Coach Yelin upheld the Orange run, helping 'Cuse secure a 25-21 win. Set four went to extra points, with the Orange going on a 3-0 run beginning at 23-24 to retire a Florida State match point and win the set 26-24. The Seminoles opened set five on a 4-0 run before the Orange went on a 9-1 stretch to bring the set score to 9-5. Florida State climbed back to secure the final set 15-11, and the match 3-2. There were 47 tie scores and 25 lead changes in the match.
