
#10 Orange Season Comes to an End in Elite Eight

No. 10 Syracuse's season came to an end with a 2-1 loss in the NCAA Quarterfinals to No. 5 Maryland on Sunday afternoon in College Park. The Orange finish the season 14-6 after making the Elite Eight for the 10th time in program history and first time since 2016. 
 After a back-and-forth battle in the first half, the Terrapins broke through in the 33rd minute with a goal by Anna Castaldo. Syracuse continued to pressure and had an opportunity at the 46 minute mark when Willemijn Boogert hit the cross bar on a shot from the top of the circle. After reviewing the play, the Orange were awarded a penalty corner and Eefke van den Nieunwenhof scored on a the corner, assisted by Tess Queen and SJ Quigley to even the game at 1-1.Â
A minute and a half later Maryland scored to put the home team ahead, 2-1, with under 10 minutes to play.
With under four minutes to go in regulation, Syracuse pulled goalkeeper Brooke Borzymowski for an extra field player but was unable to break through for a game-tying goal.Â
Borzymowski made five saves in the loss as Maryland outshot Syracuse 11-5. 'Cuse had three penalty corners and held Maryland to just one. Maryland advances to the NCAA Final Four and will play Liberty in the national semifinals next Friday.Â
