Orange Celebrate Yastrub and Gardner on Senior Day

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Graduate students Yuliia Yastrub and Dana Gardner closed their Orange careers at home as Syracuse hosted Duke before 582 fans at the Women's Building. Yastrub had nine digs and two assists in her final home match.
After the Blue Devils won the first set, 25-20, Syracuse (16-13 overall, 5-12 ACC) came back to win the second, 25-21, and even the match at one set apiece. Duke (16-12, 7-10) then took the third and fourth sets, 25-20 and 25-18, for the victory.
Senior Polina Shemanova and junior Marina Markova paced the Orange attack with 16 kills each. Markova, who leads the ACC in kills with 471, has 671 in her Syracuse career. Shemanova, who also had 21 digs, is approaching the fifth spot on the Syracuse career kills record list. She has 1,432, which is 16 shy of Andrea Carson's 1,448 kills (1989-92). Sophomore Lauren Hogan led all players with 24 digs in the match, moving closer to the 500 career digs plateau. She has 490 in 31 career matches.
