Hoffmann, van den Nieuwenhof Named to ACC All-Tournament Team

Syracuse graduate student Carolin Hoffmann and sophomore Eekfe van den Nieuwenhof were named to the Atlantic Coast Conference All-Tournament Field Hockey Team on Sunday afternoon. The duo helped the Orange advance to the ACC semifinals for the second straight year. Syracuse stands at 13-5 overall and will find out their NCAA Tournament fate Sunday night at 10 p.m. ET during the selection show on NCAA.com.Â
Hoffmann started both ACC Tournament games for the Orange. Her exceptional play in the midfield helped Syracuse to a 4-1 rout of Duke in the quarterfinals on Thursday night at J.S. Coyne Stadium. Despite losing 4-1 the following night to eventual tournament champion North Carolina, Hoffmann's defense was felt tremendously in the midfield.Â
Van den Nieuwenhof tallied three goals and an assist in two tournament games for the Orange. She led the team in points (7), goals (3) and shots on goal (7) over the two-game stretch. Van den Nieuwenhof scored twice in the quarterfinal win against Duke and added an assist while scoring Syracuse's only goal in the semifinal loss to the Tar Heels.Â
This marks the first time either player has been named to the ACC All-Tournament Team.Â
