
Markova Earns All-America Honors

Junior Marina Markova is a 2021 AVCA Division I All-American honorable mention selection. An outside hitter from St. Petersburg, Russia, Markova ranks second in the ACC and 17th nationally with 492 kills. She led the ACC and ranked 16th nationally in kills per set (4.51). In addition, she was third in attacks (1,122) and second in attacks per set (10.29) in conference. Markova closed the season with a .309 hitting percentage overall, including a .298 and .285 hitting percentage versus top-100 and top-50 programs, respectively.
During the season, she earned ACC co-ACC Player of the Week twice, including after earning tournament MVP at the Yale Invitational and following a career-weekend in Florida, where she recorded 33 kills against Florida State. The 33 kills are the third-highest single match total in Syracuse history.

Markova was one of 54 student-athletes to be named as an honorable mention. The psychology major was one of 17 athletes on all lists to be named without their team receiving an NCAA bid.
The AVCA is a national organization that oversees collegiate volleyball. During the regular season, the AVCA generates the weekly rankings for Women's Division I Volleyball. The post-season honor is awarded based on an athlete's performance during the season and takes a special focus on statistics recorded against the top-50 and top-100 teams in the country.
