
Markova is ECAC Offensive Player of the Year

Junior Marina Markova is the 2021 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Offensive Player of the Year and is a member of the 2021 All-ECAC Team. The St. Petersburg, Russia native ranks second in the ACC and 17th nationally with 492 kills. She led the ACC and ranked 16th nationally in kills per set (4.51). In addition, she was third in attacks (1,122) and second in attacks per set (10.29) in conference. Markova closed the season with a .309 hitting percentage overall, including a .298 and .285 hitting percentage versus top-100 and top-50 programs, respectively.
An outside hitter, Markova also earned 2021 AVCA Division I All-American honorable mention honors. During the season, she earned ACC co-ACC Player of the Week twice, including after earning tournament MVP at the Yale Invitational and following a career-weekend in Florida, where she recorded 33 kills against Florida State. The 33 kills are the third-highest single match total in Syracuse history.
