
Orange Winning Streak Snapped at Louisville

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Syracuse had its two-match winning streak snapped in a 4-3 loss at Louisville on Friday, February 19. After losing the doubles point, the Orange battled back to even the score at 3-3, but the Cardinals' posted at No. 5 singles to secure the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Louisville (4-2) took the doubles points with victories in match one and match two. The No.1 duo of graduate students Natalie Novotna and Miranda Ramirez lost to Rhea Verma and Andrea Di Palma, 6-2, while the No.2 pair of graduate student Guzal Yusupova and junior Sofya Treshcheva lost to Raven Neely and Tatiana Simova, 6-0.

On the singles side, Louisville carried their momentum over from doubles. Chelsea Sawyer defeated Ramirez, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 4, and Di Palma bested Yusupova 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2 to give the Cardinals a 3-0 lead.

However, the Orange (2-3) fought back, winning the next three matches. Novotna defeated Neely, 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 for the first Orange point at No. 3. Freshman Viktoriya Kanapatskaya defeated senior Nikolina Jovic, 1-6, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 followed by Polina Kozyreva earning a third point for the 'Cuse after defeating Simova, 6-4, 7-5, 6-3 at No. 6. Despite the push back, Louisville ultimately held on after Verma came back after losing the first set to defeat freshman Ines Fonte, 6-7, 6-1, 6-2.

The Orange head back home to face Virginia Tech on Feb. 26 and Virginia on Feb. 28.
