Syracuse edged Wake Forest, 85-78, on Thursday night at the Carrier Dome. The Orange (10-4, 7-4 ACC) improve to a perfect 7-0 at home this season and hit the road to face Pitt on Sunday.
"Tonight, it was a good win, and we took care of home court so that feels good for us," said Syracuse Head Coach Quentin Hillsman. "We're undefeated at home and that feels good."
Digna Strautmane had a season-high 17 points and added eight rebounds and four blocks. Kamilla Cardoso had her fourth double-double of the season finishing with 16 points, 13 rebounds and six blocks.Â
Wake Forest (8-8, 5-7 ACC) led by one, 19-18, after the opening frame. Strautmane scored seven of her 17 points in the opening 10 minutes. The two squads exchanged baskets throughout the second quarter and a 3-pointer at the buzzer by Tiana Mangakahia gave 'Cuse a 38-37 advantage going into halftime.Â
Syracuse kick-started the second half with five straight points to lead 43-37. 'Cuse outscored Wake Forest 24-17 in the third frame. Mangakahia scored eight points and had two assists and the Orange connected on 11-of-19 field goals in the third period.Â
Four Syracuse players scored in double figures. AIn addition to Strautmane and Cardoso, Mangakahia finished with 15 points and five assists, while Kiara Lewis had 16 points, six rebounds and two assists.
The Orange blocked 12 shots and won the battle on the glass, out rebounding Wake Forest, 42-38.Â
Of Note:
- Mangakahia passed Paula Moore (1,254) to move into 14th on the program's all-time scoring list
- Strautmane is now tied with Rochelle Coleman for seventh in program history in three-pointers made (152)
- Strautmane recorded a season-high in points (17) and tied a season-high four blocks
- Cardoso surpassed 200 career points and recorded her fourth career double-double
- Maeva Djaldi-Tabdi reached 600 career points
The Orange return to action on Sunday to face Pittsburgh for the second time this season. In their last meeting, Syracuse beat the Panthers 80-57 inside the Carrier Dome and five Orange players scored in double figures. Tip-off is set for Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Petersen Events Center and will air on Regional Sports Networks (YES Network locally).
