
Orange Top Eagles in ACC Opener

CHESTNUT HILL, MASS. – Syracuse women's tennis posted its first win of the year with a 5-2 victory at Boston College on Saturday, Feb. 6. The match was the ACC opener for both teams.

"We are proud of how the team competed today," Syracuse head coach Younes Limam said. "The ladies showed a lot of passion, grit and resilience. It's a team effort to win these types of matches and we're on the right track. We look forward to working on a few things from today's match and keep getting better as a team."

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Orange (1-2) won the doubles point when the No. 2 duo of graduate student Natalie Novotna and freshman Victoriya Kanapatska defeated Laura Lopez and Marice Aguiar, 6-4, and graduate student Miranda Ramirez and freshman Ines Fonte, playing at the No. 3 position, beat Hailey Wilcox and Sophia Edwards, 6-4.

Syracuse kept the momentum going as sophomore Polina Kozyreva posted a straight-set victory over Edwards, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6 singles. The squads split the next two matches to finish, with Ramirez posting a 7-5, 6-1 victory against Aguiar in the No. 4 spot. Boston College's Natasha Irani defeated Fonte, 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3 to cut the Orange's advantage to 3-2 with two matches remaining.

Novotna, playing at No. 2 singles, fought back after losing the first set to post a 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 victory against Wilcox to secure Syracuse's victory. Kanapatska ended the day with a 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 win on court one for the 5-2 final.
